Astrotec has been one of the major high-end earbuds manufacturers for some time now, specifically with their long-running Lyra series. They’ve just announced a new edition with their Lyra Mini earbuds. The Lyra Mini effectively packs all the goodness of the Lyra earbuds into a new, smaller and more comfortable size.
On top of the smaller size, the Mini comes in at a smaller price of $98. According to Astrotec, the Lyra Mini inherits “the microscopes design of Lyra series, Lyra Mini provides transparent and natural sound experience, with a smaller size”.
The new shells have a transparent body with a champagne gold trim. We’re not certain yet whether the cable is fixed or a detachable MMCX but we’ll find out soon enough. One thing is for sure: people with smaller ears are sure to love this new design. Here are the known specifications:
- Driver: Φ14mm dynamic
- Impedance: 32 OHM
- Cable: High purity OFC silver-plated cable
- Rated Power: 2 mW
- Max Power: 8 mW
- Type: Dynamic driver earbud
- Frequency Response: 20 Hz – 35KHz
- Sensitivity: 103 dB/1mw (S.P.L at 1KHz)
- Plug: Ф3.5mm Stereo gold-plated plug

According to Astrotec, the Mini is at least partly a result of feedback from the community, who said they wanted a smaller earbud for improved ergonomics and fit, especially for people with smaller ears. The Mini was recently awarded a VGP2021 SUMMER Award.
Earbuds are known to have certain advantages compared to in-ear monitors, such as a larger and more open soundstage. They also negate the need of finding the right size silicone eartips which can be a big issue, especially for people new to the inear world.
Stay tuned to the blog for my Astrotec Lyra Nature Limited Edition review which will be dropping soon. Hopefully, it will help you decide whether to go for the full-size OG or new new mini version.
