Hype 2 design

Design

The Hype 2 doesn’t just deliver audio; it delivers an experience. You’ll appreciate the smooth, glossy finish of the 3D-printed shells that exude a touch of artistry. The Zicao and Indigo colourways are not just options; they’re statements, each vying for attention in their own unique way.

But it’s not just about aesthetics. Those familiar 2-pin sockets make their appearance, ensuring a secure connection. And the aluminium nozzle, with its firm lip, cradles your chosen eartips like a safeguard. This is a build that whispers premium, a hallmark of THIEAUDIO’s commitment to quality.

Internally, the Hype 2 houses dual dynamic drivers in an isobaric dance with two Sonion balanced armature drivers. It’s a symphony of technology, orchestrated for discerning ears.

In terms of comfort, despite the shells’ wide stance, slipping the Hype 2 into your ears feels like meeting an old friend. The passive noise isolation, though, is what truly steals the show, cocooning you in a bubble of uninterrupted music. These could easily double as your secret weapon on stage.

And let’s talk about the cable. The THIEAUDIO EST cable, with high-purity Silver and OCC Copper Litz, is a nice addition to the bundle. Yet, its thickness does lend it a touch of memory, a small price for such opulence.

Sound

Gear used for testing includes the Moondrop Moonriver 2: TI, SMSL DO300EX and xDuoo XD05 BAL 2. Hype 2 is an efficient IEM and doesn’t have any special needs when it comes to power delivery. Feel free to run it straight from your smartphone or dongle DAC.

The THIEAUDIO Hype 2 features a warm balanced tuning that’s musical yet detailed and technically adept. It’s the kind of tuning that you can listen to all day without feeling fatigued thanks to its smooth highs and underlying warmth.

Bass

THIEAUDIO’s Impact² isobaric subwoofer design really takes center stage here, and it lives up to the hype with bold, textured bass. If you’re after a more neutral or restrained low end, this probably isn’t for you. The Hype 2 leans into its name, bringing a fun and energetic bass response.

The sub-bass reaches deep, delivering a solid, authoritative rumble, while the mid-bass comes in with clean hits and a satisfying punch. Despite its power, the bass doesn’t overwhelm the rest of the mix, giving the midrange plenty of room to shine.

Midrange

The Hype 2’s midrange strikes a nice balance between musicality and clarity. It leans towards neutral, but there’s a slight warmth from the bass that gives the mids a natural, pleasing tone.

The upper mids are slightly elevated, which brings vocals forward with great clarity and presence. Electric guitars have just the right amount of bite, staying crisp without ever becoming harsh, creating a smooth yet engaging sound.

Treble

The treble showcases quintessential Sonion balanced armature characteristics, offering a shimmering and almost ethereal quality. Instead of a clinical precision, it leans towards a refined tonality and smoothness. The treble extension is impressive, allowing for an abundance of airiness without any hint of brittleness. This ensures a clear and expansive upper register that complements the overall sonic profile nicely.

Soundstage and Technicalities

The Hype 2’s soundstage has a natural, rounded shape, with dimensions that sit about average, offering a balanced and cohesive spatial presentation. Instrument separation is strong, thanks to the note density, which helps each element stay clear and distinct in the mix.

Imaging is spot-on, with vocals and instruments placed accurately, giving the sound a nice sense of depth and dimension.

The stage positioning feels neutral—neither too close nor too far away—letting you fully appreciate the spatial dynamics without it feeling overly intimate or distant.

Verdict

In short, the THIEAUDIO Hype 2 stands out with its warm, balanced tuning that offers both musicality and detail. The bass, powered by THIEAUDIO’s Impact² isobaric subwoofer, brings deep, textured lows, while the midrange balances clarity and warmth nicely.

The treble is smooth and refined, adding a touch of shimmer to the upper frequencies. The soundstage, though average in size, is natural and well-balanced, with precise imaging.

For its price, the Hype 2 delivers a solid mix of musicality and technical performance. It’s a strong contender for those looking for both fun and finesse. Recommended.
