In this review, I’m looking at the Moondrop Chu II IEM. The Chu II is the second iteration of the original Chu. Not only does this new version incorporate a detachable cable but it has a new tuning too. The price is $19.

Moondrop Chu II
Sound
The Moondrop Chu II showcases a notable shift in its tuning, complemented by the highly anticipated detachable cable upgrade. This iteration leans towards a more vibrant and engaging sound profile, notably elevating the bass frequencies, especially in the sub-bass range. This enhancement brings a palpable depth and impact to elements like kick drums, undoubtedly appealing to those seeking a richer, more substantial sound. It’s worth noting, however, that some may find themselves torn, perhaps expecting the classic Chu sound with just a cable upgrade.
The midrange maintains a pleasingly natural tone, veering slightly towards the warmer end of the spectrum. Despite this warmth, the treble retains a lively energy akin to the original Chu, ensuring commendable clarity and precision in the audio output. While the treble exudes liveliness, it manages to maintain a relatively smooth character, free from any sibilance. Yet, it’s worth mentioning that for some listeners, the energetic treble might potentially lead to some listening fatigue over extended periods.
Verdict
In conclusion, the Moondrop Chu II offers excellent build and audio quality for less than $20. Not only does it come with a detachable cable, but this new iteration has a richer, more full-bodied sound. Put this one on your shortlist if you’re looking for a budget IEM.
