Design

Designed primarily for studio use, the ADAM Audio H200 has a suitably low-key appearance. The headphones are black from top to bottom and have a sleek no-fuss aesthetic.

Internally, H200 boasts 40mm PEEK performance drivers aimed at delivering a balanced frequency response, high SPL (Sound Pressure Level) and low distortion.

To ensure longevity, the H200 comes with modular exchangeable components, including the headband padding and earpads, so you can be sure to get many years of use from each pair. The stock earpads are plush memory foam that improves noise isolation and comfort during those long studio sessions.

The ADAM Audio H200 offers dual-sided cable connectivity, allowing you to attach the included 3-meter cable to either the left or right earcup based on your preference—ideal for tailoring ergonomics during desktop or studio sessions This extended cable length provides added freedom of movement. Wrapped in a smooth, tangle-resistant rubberized coating, the cable balances durability with pliable handling.

Are the H200 headphones comfortable? Without a doubt. While their generous clamping force ensures a secure fit, the plush memory foam earpads cushion your ears and distribute pressure evenly, eliminating discomfort. This design strikes a perfect balance: the snug hold keeps the headphones firmly in place during movement, whether you’re nodding to music, or leaning over a desk—yet the soft padding prevents fatigue, even during extended use. Furthermore, it preserves optimal sound isolation.

The ADAM Audio H200 Comes With Free Plugin for DAWs

Want a secret weapon for your H200s? Adam Audio hooked up with Sonnox’s audio wizards to cook up the Headphone Utility Plugin—a freebie that introduces crossfeed tech that acts like a “studio monitor simulator” for your cans. It tackles that harsh left/right isolation headphones create by sneakily blending channels—think of it as letting the left ear hear whispers from the right, and vice versa.

The result? A speaker-like soundstage where instruments breathe naturally, so you’re not stuck with “audio tunnel vision” when tweaking mixes meant for real-world playback. Slap this bad boy into your DAW (VST3 or AU ready to roll) and boom: the H200s sing like studio speakers. Pro move, zero extra cost.

H200 headphones

Sound

Gear used for testing includes the Cayin RU6, iBasso DX180 and iFi ZEN DAC V3. The H200 are efficient headphones so you don’t need a powerful source to drive them – even laptops and mobile devices are sufficient.

As a newcomer to Adam Audio, I approached the H200 with cautious curiosity. The brand’s reputation among producers and engineers is undeniable, but I’ve learned to trust my ears over hype. Marketed as studio-grade headphones, they promised the kind of neutrality I demand for critical listening—and to their credit, they delivered. No sugarcoating, no artificial warmth: just an accurate sound that lets mixes speak for themselves. For someone who values transparency, it was a refreshing (and reassuring) first impression.

The H200 exhibited near-reference neutrality from the first listen, outperforming similarly priced closed-back alternatives by a significant margin. These headphones haven’t just earned a spot on my desk—they’ve taken it over, becoming my daily drivers for everything from mixing to long listening sessions and intense gaming.

Bass

Let’s talk bass. For a pair of 40mm drivers, the H200’s low end is very impressive. This isn’t the bloated, one-note thump you’d expect at this price. It has great control, matched with a subterranean depth that rattles your skull. The mid-bass has a punchy attack that locks into grooves like a metronome, and a richness that feels engaging yet accurate. Whoever said ‘neutral’ can’t be fun clearly hasn’t met these bad boys.

Midrange

The midrange is clear and uncoloured yet still rich and emotive. Vocals have natural warmth and body and instruments sound natural and organic. Even when the track goes full chaos mode, it’s like every instrument has its own VIP section. No weird honks, no sandpaper vibes—just butter. Percussion and instrument attacks are crisp and deliberate. The mids are clean yet there’s not a hint of graininess or shoutiness.

Treble

More than anything, the H200’s natural timbre and expansive soundstage are anchored by its treble tuning. A crisp top end delivers clarity without aggression—highs are smooth and free of sharpness, even when pushed. But such refinement comes with calculated restraint. While the H200’s treble avoids sibilance and maintains excellent control, its prioritization of smoothness over exaggerated sparkle might leave some listeners craving a touch more vibrancy or “bite” in genres that thrive on energy. That said, this tuning ensures coherency and the slight warmth in the upper mids keeps the presentation musical.

Soundstage & Technicalities

H200’s soundstage is slightly wider than average for closed-back headphones. Instruments are presented on a black background, thanks to good instrument separation and overall resolution. The H200 delivers precise, layered placement of instruments offering a three-dimensional sense of space that feels both immersive and true to the recording.

Comparisons

FiiO FT1 (149 USD)

The FiiO FT1 and ADAM Audio H200 cater to different tastes. The FT1’s coloured, musical tuning has elevated sub-bass and brightened treble, sharpening vocals and percussion for a vivid, energetic listen. The H200 counters with neutrality, its smaller 40mm drivers rivalling the FT1’s 60mm drivers in bass impact while serving denser, smoother mids and superior detail retrieval. Soundstage width impresses on both, but the FT1 leans into height and forward intimacy, while the H200 offers deeper, layered staging for a relaxed, studio-like image.

When it comes to physical differences, the FT1 has more space around the ears and less clamping force. This will possibly make it more comfortable for people with larger heads but the H200, in comparison, has better noise isolation and more stability when moving around.

At under $150, the FT1 shines as a dynamic all-rounder—perfect for EDM, gaming, or casual listening with its punchy “wow factor.” The H200, however, is the analytical choice, excelling in tonal accuracy for mixing, jazz, or purists craving uncoloured sound. Different tools for different needs—neither disappoints.

Verdict

The ADAM Audio H200 is an under-$150 headphone that quietly outshines its competition. As a studio tool, it’s surprisingly precise—ideal for mixing without breaking the bank—but what truly surprises is how effortlessly it doubles as an everyday companion. Movies feel cinematic, music gains newfound texture, and gaming sessions lock you into the action, all wrapped in a rugged and comfortable form factor.

ADAM Audio has crafted a real gem here. Whether you’re tweaking EQ curves or binge-watching shows, the H200 delivers clarity and immersion without compromise. (And now I’m itching to hear how their speakers stack up.) For the price, it’s a knockout punch to bland, overpriced rivals. Bravo, ADAM Audio—this is how you win loyal fans.
