New SMSL VMV D3 Flagship R-2R DAC

SMSL is a well-established brand that makes Chi-Fi (Chinese HiFi) electronic products such as DACs and amplifiers. They have just released their new flagship model the SMSL VMV D3 fully balanced R-2R DAC.

The VMV D3 uses 4 legendary PCM1704 R-2R chips – 2 per channel as well as the XMOS second-gen 16-core XU216 processor. The XU216 can support up to 32-bit/768kHz sampling rate and native DSD512.

All this is contained in a CNC aluminium-alloy chassis with a discrete power supply and the motherboard separated to effectively isolate the power supply and minimise any electrical interference. Furthermore, the VMV D3 uses a custom UK-made Noratel potted toroidal transformer and audiophile-grade capacitors.

Accompanying the flagship chassis is an all aluminium remote control that lets you take complete control of all of the DAC’s functions from the comfort of your chair.
