EPZ Q5 Pro design

Design

The EPZ Q5 Pro has a modern, stylish design with a premium aesthetic. Its 3D-printed shells are made from glossy acrylic and the faceplates are aluminium. There’s a small vent on the faceplate and another one near the base of the aluminium nozzle.

I find the Q5 Pro above average when it comes to comfort, though I had to do some tip-rolling to find the right eartips for a secure fit. This is important with the Q5 Pro because (at least for me) the sound quality is very fit-dependent; if the shells aren’t seated properly in my ears, the sound loses warmth and depth.

The EPZ Q5 Pro comes with a 6N single-crystal copper cable. I like the fact that the cable’s aluminium components perfectly match the colour of the faceplates. There are 3.5mm and 4.4mm terminations available.

Sound

Gear used for testing includes the Topping E70 + L70 combo, the iBasso DX180 and the EPZ TP35. Q5 Pro is easy to drive and doesn’t have any specific source requirements. It has a neutral, balanced tuning with a focus on accuracy and transparency.

Bass notes are tight and controlled. Q5 Pro has good sub-bass extension that reaches deep, albeit with a fairly light rumble. The mid-bass is punchy and clean and doesn’t infringe on or muddy up the midrange.

The midrange is clean and transparent. It’s mostly neutral with a slight lift in the upper mids to give vocals some added vibrancy. Q5 Pro’s treble is crisp and detailed without sounding harsh or sibilant.

Verdict

The EPZ Q5 Pro is another quality budget IEM that will please those who prefer a neutral and uncoloured tuning. The shells look great and are comfortable to wear, even during long listening sessions. My only real gripe with the Q5 Pro is with the cable which is prone to tangling. Overall, this is a solid IEM that should be considered if you’re shopping for something around the $50 price point.
