FX-Audio L07 design

Design

The FX-Audio L07 has a vertical orientation, sharing the same physical size as the FX-Audio DS07 DAC. It’s a simple design but it looks like a no-nonsense serious audio product. The front panel is uncluttered, containing just a volume knob and an input select switch and 3 status LEDs.

The rear panel features speaker binding posts, balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs, and a Stereo/BTL mode select switch and the power switch. The unit feels robust and its minimalist ‘black box’ design allows it to integrate seamlessly into most setups. However, I did find the rear power switch a bit inconvenient and would prefer to see a button on the front panel or a combination volume/power knob.

Internally, the L07 features an Infineon MA5332MS Class-D amplification chip and a built-in independent isolated dual power supply, so there’s no need for an external power brick. Its output power is 200W+200(4Ω) and 400W(8Ω) in bridge/mono mode.

Sound

For listening, I connected the FX-Audio L07 to my NHT C3 speakers and fed it FLAC files from my SMSL RAW-MDA 1 DAC which I think would be something an L07 buyer might be likely to pair with it.

The L07 delivers clean power—and lots of it. This compact, powerful amp makes my little speakers come to life. Its transparent and uncoloured sound digs up great detail and presents the music the same way it goes in. It’s so clean that it almost comes across as clinical, but it preserves just enough warmth to sound natural and evoke emotion.

It’s impressive how the dynamics remain controlled and expressive, with the music’s evolving energy presented convincingly. The L07’s transparent nature and black background create a spacious and wide soundstage with good spacing between instruments.

The bass is tight and punchy, without being boomy. It hits with precision, without overshadowing the other frequencies. Midrange detail is handled with finesse, allowing vocals and instruments to sound lifelike and clear while retaining that hint of warmth that keeps it from feeling too sterile. The treble is crisp and airy, extending smoothly without any sharpness or edge. It’s detailed without becoming harsh, which is great for long listening sessions.

To be honest, my little bookshelf speakers aren’t demanding enough to push this amp – even at ear-piercing levels. However, for my specific setup, it drives the music with a clear and distortion-free sound. Overall, the L07 offers a balanced and articulate sound signature that excels at revealing fine details without losing musicality.

Verdict

The FX-Audio L07 offers impressive amplification for its low price. Its fully balanced design and straightforward setup mean you can get it running quickly and easily. Whether in stereo or BTL mode, the L07 delivers a robust, detailed, and transparent sound, with just enough warmth to keep things musical. The build quality is excellent, and its sleek, vertical design is easy to integrate into an existing system. If you’re after clean, abundant power on a budget, the L07 is a solid choice.
