HEDD Audio has just lifted the curtain on something rather special: the HEDDphone D1, the world’s first dynamic-driver headphone to feature Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm (TPCD) technology.
First conceived eight years ago, the D1 represents a long-term vision finally realised. Developed in partnership with Sweden’s Composite Sound, known for their advanced diaphragm expertise, the D1 aims to push the boundaries of what a dynamic driver can do. This launch also marks HEDD’s first venture outside of its famed Air Motion Transformer (AMT) designs, bringing the company’s innovation-driven spirit into new territory.

The Next Step in Dynamic Design
At the heart of the D1 is its defining feature — the Thin-Ply Carbon Diaphragm. Unlike conventional carbon fibre, Thin-Ply Carbon is formed from ultra-fine, meticulously aligned layers of carbon. The result is an incredibly light yet rigid diaphragm that can move with remarkable control and speed. This structural precision means less reliance on damping materials, allowing for a cleaner, more natural sound reproduction across the frequency range.
According to HEDD, the D1 combines “the precision of a studio monitor with the intimacy of a headphone,” and on paper, that seems like a fair description. The headphone is designed for clarity, tonal balance, and fatigue-free listening — whether used in the studio or at home. With a 32-ohm impedance and 100 dB sensitivity, it should be easy to drive from most sources but still reward high-quality amplification.
Built to Last
True to the brand’s engineering-first approach, every HEDDphone D1 is manufactured in Germany, with its bespoke TPCD diaphragm produced exclusively in Sweden. All parts are fully serviceable, and HEDD stands behind the product with a generous 5-year warranty — a rare statement of confidence in today’s headphone market.
Price and Availability
The HEDDphone D1 is available starting 6 November 2025 via select retailers and distributors, priced at €699 (incl. VAT) / $799 (excl. VAT) / £599 (incl. VAT).
After redefining studio monitors with the AMT, HEDD seems ready to do it again — this time in the world of dynamic headphones. The D1 might just be the next step forward for those chasing precision without compromise.
