Design

The SIVGA P2 Pro is undoubtedly a great-looking headphone. It’s built on a spring steel frame with red oak earcups and stainless steel grilles. It has a wide, padded faux leather headband that distributes pressure evenly to avoid any discomfort.

The earcups pivot and rotate 180% so they adhere naturally to the shape of your head. The earpads are faux leather mixed with plush fabric. They’re super plush and soft. Overall comfort is superb, especially despite the considerable weight (435 g).

The stock 6N OCC cable is excellent. It’s thin and supple yet feels robust and reliable. It has standard 3.5mm connectors so it can be replaced easily and comes with a 4.4mm balanced termination.

Inside P2 Pro's earpads

Sound

It has a warm and musical sound signature which is engaging and great for casual listening and content consumption (such as movies and games). It’s a headphone that encourages you to turn up the volume and lose yourself in the music. However, for the more astute listeners, critical listening on the P2 Pro isn’t as impressive.

The bass has lovely depth and impact without being overbearing. The mid-bass is punchy and warm yet controlled. Sub-bass notes reach deep and can create a thrilling rumble which is enhanced by the unique audio quality and resonance of the wood earcups.

The midrange is luscious and sultry but maintains good clarity and separation. Vocals and instruments have good body and note density, making them feel lifelike and emotional. The upper mids aren’t artificially boosted. As a result, male vocals sound rich and female vocals are vibrant but never shouty.

The SIVGA P2 Pro’s treble is clear but somewhat laid-back making it good for most music genres. There’s no sibilance or harshness, so the P2 Pro is fairly forgiving on poor recordings.

The soundstage is modestly wide but has good depth and a stable centre image. Consequently, the imaging is good, enhanced by good note density and the high level of control of the planar driver.

My biggest gripe with the P2 Pro is its disappointing detail retrieval. Micro details are often lost, which results in a somewhat low-fidelity sound. This shortcoming is most evident in complex tracks where multiple instruments and layers are present.

Comparison

HarmonicDyne Zeus Elite ($379)

The Zeus Elite (review here) has 50mm dynamic drivers. It has a more lively presentation and a brighter tone. The bass level is similar to the P2 Pro but the Zeus Elite has more clarity in the midrange due to its lifted upper mids. This is where its added brightness and occasional shoutiness come from, whereas the P2 Pro is calmer and more laid-back.

However, the Zeus Elite can’t match the P2 Pro in overall resolution, nor does it do any better with micro detail retrieval. The soundstage is a tad wider on the Zeus Elite but it has less note density and vocals aren’t as forward.

iBasso Audio SR2 ($549)

The SR2 (review here) has dynamic drivers. It has a brighter tone than the P2 Pro. SR2’s bass is faster but not as punchy or impactful. Its midrange is closer to neutral and has better clarity.

SR2 has crisper transients with more bite on electric guitars and clearer vocal articulation. In comparison, the P2 Pro’s mids are smoother and warmer. Both of these headphones are fairly laid-back in the treble – the SR2 gets its extra brightness from a boosted upper midrange. This gives it extra vibrancy but at the cost of some shoutiness.

Verdict

The SIVGA P2 Pro is a beautifully crafted headphone with red oak earcups and etched stainless steel mesh covers. It’s super comfy, just like its rich, warm sound signature, making it perfect for long listening sessions. If you’re looking for something that sounds organic and natural and also looks fantastic, the P2 Pro deserves your attention.
