In this article, I review the Hidizs MP143 Salt IEMs. The MP143 is the successor to the popular MP145. It has 14.3mm planar drivers and a whale-inspired shell design. It’s available for an early bird price of $99 on Kickstarter but the regular price will be $159.
Once again, Hidizs has teamed up with the Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC) group which is a “leading charity dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins.” The aim is to raise people’s awareness about the plight of these intelligent creatures which are vital to the health of the ocean and our planet.
Hidizs is doing its part by using plastic-free ocean-friendly packaging for the MP143. To learn more or join in supporting them, you can head over to the WDC website.

Design
The Hidizs MP143 Salt design was inspired by ocean waves and the baleen plates of the whale. This is reflected in the 14 lines carved into the faceplate and the overall shape of the shells. The shells are made from CNC aluminium alloy and have a high build quality.
The shells are somewhat large, despite being smaller than the MP145. I found them comfortable enough but due to the shape, I had to use the largest eartips from my collection to get a stable fit. Passive noise isolation is slightly above average, making the MP143 suitable for all kinds of environments.
The IEMs come with a 0.78mm 2-pin copper cable. It handles well and has minimal microphonics. All of the cable components, including the chin slider are matching aluminium. You can select between 3.5mm and 4.4mm terminations during purchase.

Sound
Gear used for testing includes the Hidizs AP80 Pro X and SMSL DO300EX. The MP143 is an efficient IEM and can be used with just about any source but it can scale with better quality sources.

Verdict
The Hidizs MP143 Salt delivers audio quality comparable to its predecessor, the MP145, but at a more affordable price. It features smaller shells and now comes with tuning filters and 3 sound profiles. While the fit could still be improved, I’m excited to see what Hidizs brings to the table with the next MP series IEM. Overall, the MP143 is a great choice, delivering sound that rivals other top-tier IEMs in its price range.
