In this article, I’m reviewing the TRN TA4 IEM. The TA4 is a hybrid quad-driver IEM with 2DD+2BA and it comes with a modular cable. The price is $86.

Design
The first thing I noticed about the TRN TA4 was its semi-open back design. TRN claims that this is for “effectively relieving pressure on the eardrum”. This seems to be true in my case because I don’t feel any build-up of pressure while wearing them.
The shells are made up of a lightweight aluminium alloy faceplate and resin body. It’s a pretty low-key design but I think it looks pretty good. There are no additional vents apart from the open-back faceplates but why would you need any?
Internally, the TA4 has a 10mm beryllium-coated driver, a 6mm titanium-coated driver and dual Knowles 33518 balanced armature drivers.
When it comes to comfort, the TA4 scores well. The shells are lightweight and relatively small. As I write this, I’ve been wearing them all day and they feel great in the ears. Passive noise isolation is slightly below average but still adequate for use while commuting etc.
TRN has really stepped up its cable game since times past. I have not-so-fond memories of spindly tangle-prone stock TRN cables but the one included with the TA4 is different. This one is a 4-core braided SPC and OFC mix that looks and feels good. But the best part about it is its swappable connectors. 3.5mm, 2.5mm and 4.4mm connectors are all included in the box and can be easily swapped out anytime you like.
